History/Overview
Hyundai introduced the Ioniq last year as its first dedicated electrified car. It was initially sold in gas-electric hybrid form and as a pure electric model.
Clearly, the Toyota Prius influenced the Ioniq's exterior design. However, the cars share nothing in common. Fiercely independent Hyundai created this car on its own from the wheels up. It does share some of its mechanical and structural components with the Kia Niro.
What's New / Key Changes from Last Year
The Ioniq Electric Plus is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) that is new this year, becoming the third distinct Ioniq model alongside the hybrid and electric variants. Its plug-in rechargeable battery promises 47 km of driving range.
Available Trims
Hyundai sells the Ioniq Electric Plus in SE and Limited trims.
Standard Features
Ioniq Electric Plus SE includes 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, LED daytime running lights and taillights, heated side mirrors, heated front and rear seats, six-way manual seats, eight-speaker stereo with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 8.0-inch infotainment display with navigation, leather-trimmed shifter and steering wheel, passive keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, 7.0-inch TFT gauge cluster display and blind spot detection with rear cross traffic alert.
Limited trim adds LED headlights, chrome door handles, power driver's seat, leather upholstery, artificial leather dash and door trim, auto-dimming rearview mirror, rear park assist, adaptive cruise control, LED interior lighting, lane keeping assist and forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic braking.
Fuel Economy
Hyundai's energy consumption estimates for the Ioniq Electric are 2.0 Le/100 km when running on electricity alone, and 4.4/4.6 L/100 km (city/highway) in gas-electric hybrid mode.
Competition
You have a few other PHEVs to choose from, such as the Toyota Prius Prime, Honda Clarity, Ford Fusion Energi and Chevrolet Volt. If you're already in a Hyundai showroom, you might look at the Sonata PHEV, and Kia sells a similar car called the Optima PHEV.
